ABSTRACT
The success of industrial revolution 4.0 in
promoting Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a human assistant on one hand has
brought positive impacts in many aspects of life. However, on the other hand,
the emergence of AI also has left some issues especially on human values. In
the field of education, the industrial revolution 4.0 seems to have ruled out
three aspects of character education, namely, cultural values, formal juridical
values, and religious values. This study aims to provide an AI system design
that can support the implementation of character education in schools which is
technology-based. This idea corresponds with the vision of the transition to
the society 5.0 which seeks to harmonize the technology and humanity. In order
to the reach the aim, data were first collected from literature review
processes on existing studies in three main categories covering: 1) problem
behaviors in industrial revolution 4.0 (three main articles), 2) character
education in the society 5.0 (three main articles), and 3) AI system in students’
character-building process (three main articles). The main articles are
selected upon the relevance to the issues raised on the uses of AI in character
education. The data gathered are then analyzed qualitatively in four stages,
namely, 1) de-contextualization, 2) re-contextualization, 3) categorization, and
4) compilation. Eventually, the results of the data analysis are translated
into the design of AI system plan works that would be applicable in assisting
the implementation of character education in schools. The designed AI system
plan work covers such AI features as e-watch, data analyzer, and application
that could altogether provide diagnosis and treatment recommendations to
overcome students’ problem behaviors. The design also puts emphasis on the
roles of teachers, parents, and students in maximizing controls and character-building
processes. The development of the prototype of the designed AI system including
the experimentation and examination of its practicability will be suggested to
be performed in future research.

Conclusion
The
degradation of moral values of students
as
a side effect of the massive implementation of AI
during the industrial revolution 4.0 has
raised a new challenge in the world of education. AI which has undeniably
assisted humans should be designed in harmony with moral
values. Such an idea leads to the so-called concept of society 5.0 in education which
aims to strengthen the character education by
integrating AI to improve students’ self-quality and characters while also avoid them from behavioral deviations. The processes
should of course involve teachers and parents as inseparable parties in
students’ character development.
To
help teachers and parents in decision making for the actions needed by students
to build their character values, the plan work of AI system is developed and
designed based on an existing system, namely PB-Advisor. The function of AI
system is also maximized by combining it with an AI body sensor system that is
usually used in the healthcare in order to identify students’ problem behaviors
and its factors. As the result, This system provides the recommendation of the
solution to the teachers and parents based on the result of its analysis.
As this study is purely on theoretical basis, further studies
including the development of the AI prototype and product, experimentation, and
implementation trials are suggested to perform.
